Adventures with my dog have one rule.

That one rule is simple: we must have fun. Why the one rule, adventures must be fun?  It helps us keep a positive outlook on life.  Our adventures can be quick jaunts, like going to the post office, a walk around the block or an afternoon at the dog park.  A few other things we enjoy are going to pet friendly hotels, hiking in beautiful Utah and spending time at the beach.

My dogs have learned that hiking shoes and my backpack lead to great things.

When they see the gear they wait at the door with wild expectations.  Our favorite destinations are those with less people, off the beaten path and within two hours of our home.  The fun level is measured by how much they sleep on the car ride home.  Often we have exhausted pups.

Following the one rule of having fun has lead us to spectacular places.

However, we won’t be making the cover of  National Geographic anytime soon, although I do find inspiration for outings in their publications.  Our adventures can be quick with a specific purpose or long and explorative. These photos are from out latest hike at Cathedral Gorge State Park in Nevada.  The park is is a public recreation area and geologic preserve featuring a dramatic landscapes.

A few tips on hiking with dogs in state parks, know the rules before you go.

Not all trails are dog approved, research which ones are dog friendly.  Pack a  leash, harness,  water and poop bag for your dog.  Never assume other hikers like dogs as much as you do and  always show trail curtesy.

Adventures with my dogs are something I look forward to.  This special time gives us the opportunity to bond and make more memories.  However you spend time with your dog, make it FUN.
